The Coasts

Brutal storms rain down upon these lands, giving The Coasts a gloomy nature. It is a land filled with many secrets just itching to be found, be they amongst the mountains or across the sea. The eastern coast is divided from the rest of the continent by the largest mountain range in the realm, pressed up against the tumultuous sea. Islands big and small that are off the coast are nominally considered part of this territory as well.

Many residents of The Coasts are isolationists, hidden beneath the earth. They are wary of outsiders, and not eager to share hospitality with them. Just as many however, are consumed by wanderlust, sailing out to distant lands. Conflicts involving the Lords of the Coasts usually tend to be proxy wars or include the use of foreign mercenaries, as the peoples of each kingdom are not vast in quantity. Any skirmish or battle could be disastrous for any kingdom in the territory.

The peoples of The Coast commonly wear travelling clothes that feature layered fabrics and cloaks. Travelling across The Coasts is a dreary affair, so having a layer to protect them from rain, that is easy to remove once inside is essential. Less isolationist members of The Coast augment this look by adding traveling bags containing all their necessities.

An example of a character from The Coasts would be a Rune-smith who lives under the mountains. The potential to learn more about the world and its wonders outweighs their isolationist nature, and they seek greater runic magics to assist in the defence of their home.

The appearance of peoples and kingdoms of The Coast could be inspired by, but should  not be limited to, the appearances of: Dwarves, Celts, Merfolk, medieval Swiss, Kobolds, Medieval Tibetans, Wizards, Pirates, Corsairs, and Kenku.
