Code of Conduct
As ‘The Ancients’ is set in a medieval fantasy world, it is imperative to stress the importance of crew and player conduct, and what is not acceptable at this event.
The Ancients is an 18 and over only event.
Engaging in combat is consent to be hit with weapons and for incidental contact, but you may not grab, push, or otherwise directly touch another player without consent, even during combat. What this looks like is up to the people involved in the interaction, but if you are unsure if the person has given consent, do not touch them.
Whenever someone is picking another character up from the ground, they should state that they are picking that character up, and said character should stand up on their own strength. They should not pull, push, or attempt to lift other characters at any time.
When searching another character who has been defeated, they should state that they are being searched, and should not touch the character.
Players and crew can always revoke consent or express discomfort of particular RP at any time. Eg. If a player has given consent for another character to touch them during Healing RP, that player can always revoke that consent and all players and crew MUST abide by this.
Any racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic language, out of character violence or abuse will not be tolerated.
Players are not to use religious or ideological symbols that have real world connotations which could cause offence, such as the Christian cross, the Star of David, the Hindu Om or any other living religion practiced today. This also includes symbols used by hate groups such as swastikas and certain Norse runes used by white supremacist groups like the Ophala and Sol runes.
Please avoid costume, makeup, and references that lean into bigoted stereotypes such as using blackface or anti-semetic goblin stereotypes. In the same vein, please avoid things that are closed practice, such as feathered headdresses, traditional Maori tattoos, and similar.
Do not comment on another player’s kit directly unless they have asked you for feedback; please highlight any issue to a member of crew, who will take it up with the player directly if they feel the need to do so.
‘The Ancients’ is a world where gender identity is irrelevant to social status. Therefore, gendered titles may be used interchangeably - a femme presenting person may have a title such as “Lord” or a masculine presenting person may have a title such as Duchess, if they so wish for example. You must respect a player's and a character’s chosen name, title, and pronouns, even if this is different from what you expect, or from how the player presents out of character.
Even as a PvE game, there can be moments in which roleplay can get intense and the potential for conflict can arise. To avoid these circumstances becoming distressing out of character, “check-ins” are encouraged after the conflict has occurred. Any planned PvP conflict needs to be checked with every direct participant beforehand. Additionally, it will not be considered “immersion breaking” to drop out of character to ask how someone is if you feel like the roleplay of a certain situation is upsetting someone.
We would also like to note several areas which are not concepts within our game. These are not to be discussed or implied at any point:
• Non-consensual sex or sexual assault in any form
• Out-of-character politics
• Discrimination on the grounds of any out of character characteristic such as race, gender, physical appearance, disability, etc.
Breaching the code of conduct will result in a warning or outright ban, at the discretion of the game team.
